A day on quiet ground
The Marmifera del Corchia is one of those rare trails that tells a story with every step. This dirt mountain road — a strada bianca carved into the flanks of the Apuan Alps — was built to transport marble from the quarries of Corchia, and it still bears the marks of that industrial past.
The route winds through dramatic mountain scenery, with views of the surrounding peaks and the valleys below. The ascent is steady and rewarding, and the silence up here — broken only on weekdays by the rumble of marble trucks — makes weekends feel like a true escape into another world.
A walk for those who want something real: raw landscape, honest effort, and the unique atmosphere of the Apuan marble country.
Important:
- During this hike we will pass alongside marble quarries, but we won’t be able to enter them, as they are private property.
- This hike is only available on weekends (Saturday and Sunday), as the road is actively used by marble trucks during the week.

Medium-Easy
This hike has no technical difficulty — the entire route follows a wide strada bianca (unpaved mountain road), so there are no scrambles, exposed sections, or tricky terrain to navigate.
That said, don’t underestimate the effort. The route is 7 km total, and all 420 metres of elevation gain are concentrated in the first half — meaning the outward leg is a sustained, consistently steep climb with no real flat sections to recover on. Your legs will know about it.
The return is the same road in reverse, so the descent is long and gradual — easier on the lungs, but hard on the knees over time.
A good level of cardiovascular fitness is recommended. Sturdy walking shoes or hiking boots are advised for comfort and grip on the uneven gravel surface.
