Private Nature Guide Tuscany: What It Costs

Most guides will happily tell you about their qualifications. Very few will tell you the price before you write to them.

I price my private walks as a flat rate per group, not per person, which usually makes a private day cost less than two seats on a coach tour.

What a private nature guide in Tuscany costs

Here are my standard 2026 rates. The headline price covers a small private group of one to three people, and only larger groups pay more.

Half-day walk (about 4 hours): €150 for 1 to 3 people, then €5 per extra person.
Full-day walk (about 6 to 7 hours): €220 for 1 to 3 people, then €10 per extra person.
Private mushroom foraging (September to November, max 5): €450 per group.
Written Expert Brief (a consultation call plus a custom document): €65.

No booking fees, no per-head markup for a couple, no upsell on the trail.

The per-person math nobody shows you

Because the rate is per group, the maths gets better the moment there are two of you.

For a couple, a half-day works out around €75 each. A full day is about €110 each. That buys a certified private guide for the whole day, on a route chosen for you, with no strangers in the group.

Compare that to a large-group tour, where two seats often cost more than my private rate and you share the guide with thirty other people.

Is a private guide worth it?

Price is only half the question. The other half is what the price buys.

It is genuinely private. Your group only, never joined by strangers.
It is certified and insured. I am a GAE-licensed environmental guide and carry professional liability insurance.
It is specialist knowledge, not a script. I hold a regional mushroom-identification certification and read the landscape as we walk, from flora to fungi to birds.
It is a photographer’s eye. I work as a photographer, so I choose locations and timing for the light, not just the trail.
It is a calm pace. These are slow, observational days, not a forced march.

If you have read thirty articles and still cannot tell the good guides from the rest, this is what you are paying to remove: the guesswork.

What’s included, and what isn’t

The rate covers the guiding itself, and nothing is hidden.

Included: professional guiding, route planning and safety, on-trail nature interpretation (landscape, flora, fauna, fungi), and basic photography guidance.

Not included: transport to the trailhead, food and drink, personal gear, accommodation, and the optional photography session, which is a separate paid add-on.

Guide, group tour, or going it alone

Three ways to spend a day outdoors in Tuscany, three different trips.

A large group tour is the cheapest per seat only if you travel solo, and you get a fixed route and a shared guide. Going solo is free but puts the timing, the navigation, and the safety on you. A private guide costs more than a bus seat but less than most people expect, and the day is built entirely around you.

For a first visit to unfamiliar mountains, or for anyone who wants the real nature rather than the postcard, the private option is usually the one worth its price.

Booking, weather, and cancellations

Simple and low-risk.

You send a date, group size, and any requests. I confirm availability, and a request is not a booking until I confirm it. If the weather turns unsafe, I reschedule or move us to a lower, safer route. Cancel early and you get a full refund minus a €25 processing fee; within 7 days, half is retained; within 3 days, the full amount is.
