This is a question I receive regularly from visitors looking to explore Tuscany beyond the typical tourist routes. The honest answer? Not many guides offer this kind of specialized experience—and that’s precisely why I decided to create something unique.
Filling a Gap in Tuscan Tourism
Tuscany is famous for its vineyards, Renaissance art, and rolling hills. But beneath the chestnut forests, along remote mountain trails, and in protected reserves lies an entirely different world—one of remarkable botanical diversity and rich fungal life that few visitors ever experience.
When I realized this gap existed between what nature enthusiasts were seeking and what was actually available, I saw an opportunity to combine my passions: professional guiding, nature photography, and my passion for flora and fungi. The result is a service you won’t find easily elsewhere.
The Mushroom Hunting Experience
I offer dedicated mushroom hunting tours that go far beyond simply walking through woods hoping to spot something interesting. These expeditions are timed to seasonal fungi cycles, planned around optimal locations I’ve scouted over years, and designed to teach participants not just what mushrooms look like, but how to read the forest—understanding the relationships between soil, climate, tree species, and fungal growth.
My background in photography means I also teach participants how to document their finds beautifully, creating lasting memories of species that might only appear for a few weeks each year.
Botanical Treasures Beyond the Guidebooks
What sets my tours apart isn’t just the mycological focus—it’s the deliberate selection of locations that offer both photographic beauty and botanical significance. I don’t choose trails randomly. Each route I design serves multiple purposes: stunning landscapes, interesting geological features, and access to plant species that are either rare, seasonally spectacular, or simply overlooked.
For example, my Riserva Acquerino Hike if done in middle-late spring coincide with the blooming of Asphodelus albus, the white asphodel. This striking Mediterranean species, with its tall spikes of star-shaped white flowers, transforms certain meadows into ethereal landscapes that most visitors to Tuscany never witness. It’s not a plant you’ll stumble upon casually—you need to know where and when to look.

A Different Kind of Tuscan Experience
These tours aren’t for everyone, and that’s intentional. They’re designed for people who want to slow down, observe carefully, and connect with the natural world on a deeper level. Whether you’re a nature photographer, an amateur botanist, a mushroom enthusiast, or simply someone who finds joy in discovering what others miss, these experiences offer something genuinely unique.
Tuscany has much more to offer than most people realize. I’m here to show you that hidden dimension.
